Women are the backbone of any society. Educated women become conscientious leaders who create opportunities for both men and women to progress. CDN sponsored educational training and scholarships for women in South Sudan, Pakistan, Philippines, and Nepal to increase their capacity to participate in democratic processes, improve health awareness, and to create income-generating opportunities for their families.

One woman, Rina, in Pakistan, was not "marketable" for marriage because she had been jilted at the wedding altar some years ago. This shame not only affected her, but her entire family. Through her family's request, CDN sponsored Rina to complete her university education. This changed not only her local status, but her marriageability. Happily, she was requested and chose to wed a man who also has education. Today, her family offers thanks, saying: "Education is the key to opportunity. It has changed our lives."
